Jin Eui Kim is an accomplished ceramic artist with a global reputation. Originally from South Korea, he now resides in Cardiff, UK, with his family. After completing his BA in Contemporary Arts (Ceramics) at the University of Tasmania, he pursued further education and obtained his MA and PhD in Ceramics from the Cardiff School of Art and Design. In 2011, he was accepted into the Graduate Residence at Fireworks Clay Studios in Cardiff, where he remains a full-time member. He is also a selected member of the Craft Potters Association (CPA).

 

Jin Eui's impressive body of work has been exhibited around the world, including prestigious events such as the Affordable Art Fair NYC, Context Miami, Art Karlsruhe, and Grassi Messe. In the UK, he regularly showcases his works at events like Ceramic Art London, the London Art Fair, Collect, and exhibitions with galleries such as Hauser & Wirth Somerset, the Scottish Gallery, The New Craftsman Gallery St. Ives, and Cube Gallery. He recently had solo shows at Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste in France and Llantarnam Grange in Wales.

 

Jin Eui has been recognized for his exceptional artistic talent, including selection for the AWARD exhibition in the British Ceramics Biennial in 2013 and 2021, as well as the HOT ROOKIES special exhibition for the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea. He has received numerous awards, including the Emmanuel Cooper Prize at Ceramic Art London 2018, Best Maker in Wales at the Made by Hand fair, and winner of the Homes & Gardens Designer Awards in the China & Glass Category. He was also selected for Best Ceramics at the Contemporary Craft Festival, the second-best demonstrations at Art in Action in 2016, and was a finalist for the Westerward Prize and the ING Discerning Eye Competition in 2014. Jin Eui was awarded the Production fund (2018) and Stabilisation fund (2020) from the Arts Council of Wales to further develop his work.

 

Jin Eui’s artistic style involves the exploration of tonal effects and spatial illusions using gradients in tone, varying widths of bands, intervals between bands, and the arrangement of tonal blocks. His unique approach has resulted in works that are visually and intellectually challenging. His pieces have been purchased by prestigious institutions such as the Manchester Art Gallery, The National Museum Cardiff, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Shipley Art Gallery for their permanent collections.
